About

Emily Trulson is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, International Sports Sciences Certified Personal Trainer and Sports Nutrition Coach. She graduated from Bradley University in 2017 with a degree from the Department of Leadership in Education, Human Services in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. A recipient of the Margaret J. Burke Endowed Scholarship as well as Graduate Student Leadership and Service Award, she completed her Internship at the Eating Disorders Program at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois and later earned her State Counseling License in 2020. Although trained in the field of clinical mental health and personalized fitness training, she defines herself primarily as an inspirational and philosophical guide eager to engage herself in the empowerment of individuals toward finding long-term solutions to their presenting symptoms. She specializes in evidence-based treatment therapies for adult women with eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, and trauma. As a trauma informed psychotherapist she provides thorough assessments, psychotherapy, wellness coaching, career assessments, and EMDR therapy. Emily incorporates fitness fusion into her sessions such as breathwork, walk and talk therapy, foam rolling and yoga movements. She’s creative in utilizing mindfulness-based practices toward a holistic treatment method where her clients experience a healing mind and body alignment in therapy. Early in her career she became involved as a fitness consultant for O2 Health Studio in Chennai, India where she educated personal trainers on western fitness trends and wellness concepts. She enjoyed educating early in her career and has used this experience as a building block to create individualized fitness fusion concepts alongside her unique approach of mental health counseling, presentations, and workshops for the success of her patients. Emily joined the University Of Illinois College of Medicine, UICOMP’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine as a contracted Clinical Associate on an as needed basis on February 2021. She provided short term structured therapy to medical students reducing anxiety and alleviating stress. Emily was also involved part-time at the Central Illinois Pain Center in the hospital outpatient program of OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center as a practicing Psychotherapist. At the pain clinic she worked diligently with patients managing their chronic pain as a member of the Strategies of Healthy Living Team. She managed a caseload involving patients on an opioid taper, coached opioid weaning, taught Empowered Relief classes, provided crisis counseling, ORT assessment, EMDR therapy, and medication management. Emily is a Stanford University Certified Empowered Relief Instructor to patients managing their chronic pain. She completed her training as an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) level one and level two certified Psychotherapist adding additional effective treatment modalities for those who have unresolved trauma alongside their chronic pain. Patients say she is kind, compassionate, warm, engaging, and a great listener.
